Stop the Stigma 2024: A Celebration of Advocacy and Change
This year’s Stop the Stigma event was a powerful and inspiring gathering dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and breaking down the barriers that prevent open conversations and support. The event brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds—mental health professionals, advocates, community members, and those with lived experience—to foster connection, education, and solidarity in the fight against stigma. It served as a reminder of the importance of creating safe spaces where mental health can be openly discussed and prioritized, paving the way for a more inclusive and compassionate society.
During the event, we were deeply honored to present Angela Padilla with the Stigma Buster award, created in honor of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, for her remarkable efforts in combating the stigma surrounding mental health. We also celebrated the achievements of social worker Larry Schallert, whose lifelong dedication to the mental health field has provided crucial support to countless individuals and families. Their advocacy and tireless commitment to improving mental health care continue to inspire change, reminding us all of the collective responsibility to foster understanding, empathy, and respect for mental health challenges. Together, their contributions bring us closer to a world where mental health is not only supported but celebrated as an essential aspect of overall well-being.
